meeting recap:
We had 14 attendees including online participants.
we discussed elections that will be held at the chapter convention next month, and determined the time and manner of nominations and voting
For local issues we passed two motions, the first to support Jefferson County proposition 1 – a property tax to directly fund the county parks program – on social media, and the second to endorse the Family Structure non-discrimination Ordinance. We also discussed ensuring that we are listening to and focusing recruitment efforts on local voices, and did a brief overview of the county commissioner elections
For state level issues, we passed two endorsement resolutions: Whole Washington and No Hate in Washington State. We additionally passed an amendment for the statewide convention resolution to fix apportionment for vancouver WA, and we passed a resolution allowing North Olympic DSA to coordinate directly with DSA-endorsed campaigns out of other chapters, and engage in joint messaging where appropriate and useful.
We additionally heard a report on the 22 DSA-related electoral campaigns around the state, and a report on the SIOC policy survey results.
Members who want to help develop the potential 2027 campaigns who are interested in one of these campaigns – Housing, Healthcare, childcare, progressive taxation, or workers rights – are encouraged to join the SIOC policy committee to assist in the development of these policy items at the state level. Any member in good standing is eligible to join the SIOC and assist in this activity.
Lastly we discussed chapter work, and assigned members to certain tasks to ensure that chapter operations can continue smoothly.
Thanks to those of you that attended, and we hope to see everyone soon!
