Chapter Convention:
Our chapter convention’s location has been set – we’ll be meeting at Gardiner Community Center, 6:00-8:00PM June 25th; as always you can join via Jitsi at https://meet.jit.si/NorOlyDSAGeneralMeetings. If you aren’t familiar with Jitsi it feels just like zoom! We’ll be electing our leadership positions; passing our annual Goals and Priorities document, our chapter platform, and our annual budget; continuing our participation in the state SIOC; receiving updates on our current campaigns; and as always discussing local issues.
Ongoing Chapter campaigns:
Our chapter is currently supporting five items.
1. Family Structure non-discrimination ordinance
The family structure non-discrimination ordinance is a City-level legislation to bring equality to non-monogamous relationships, include polyamory, Queer Platonic Relationships, multi-partner households, and extra-nuclear households. Our current effort is to get this ordinance on the agenda for the city councils of all three cities.
2. Nemo Callaway for LD24 position 2
Nemo Callaway is an endorsed cadre candidate running for the open seat previously held by Steve Tharinger in Legislative District 24 position 2. If you want to volunteer for their campaign you can email norolydsa@gmail.com to coordinate with our DSA volunteer team. The primary election will be on August 4th.
3. Jefferson County Proposition 1
This proposition will ensure the continuation of Jefferson County Parks and Rec services by creating a dedicated Parks and Recreation fund in the county budget. It will be on the August 4th ballot.
4. No Hate in Washington State
The “No” campaign for Brian Heywood’s dangerous and transphobic initiatives. These will be on the ballot on November 3rd
5. Whole Washington
Whole Washington is building up towards an initiative to the legislature that will place the Washington Health Trust on the 2028 general election ballot.
Connection options:
We’d like to remind folks that we do the majority of chapter discussion outside of meetings on Signal. We have a public signal open to anyone that requests access, and a private signal that is only open to members in good standing. If you want to be more involved, the signal is the easiest way to connect with your fellow members. If you’re interested in joining the signal, send us an email at norolydsa@gmail.com and I’ll provide you with the join link. Don’t worry if you’re unfamiliar with signal – we can help you get it set up.
