Do you want to help elect Nemo Callaway to LD24 position 2? This is the place to start!
Yard signs
I love a yard sign, you love a yard sign, we all love yard signs! Luckily every one of us has access to a low-cost DIY yard sign! You need a large piece of *scrap!* cardboard, one or two sticks, a couple pieces of paper, packing tape, and whatever crayons, markers, colored pencils, or similar you can scrounge or have laying around.
If you need help with supplies or inspiration maybe check out a local community art event, or contact whoever always seems to have extra signs at your local protests.
- Print out the sign template PDF and tape them together, or take two pieces of printer paper, tape them together, and write “Elect Callaway for LD 24 Position 2” on them. If you’re using the PDF version you’ll have to crease (or cut) the pages to the margin for things to mesh properly
- The sponsor of the sign is “the person who arranges for the ad to be displayed” You can either use my campaign information and report it as an in-kind contribution with your best guess as to the cost of the sign, or use your own information as the person arranging for the display of the sign, in which case no reporting is necessary. The sign MUST contain the name and address of the sponsor.
- Decorate! I recommend roses and/or fists, but you can use whatever symbology strikes your fancy.
- Cut your cardboard to size (18×12 for a solid 1″ margin)
- Tape the paper to the cardboard in overlapping strips, starting from the bottom of the sign (this ensures rain sheds down without sneaking under the tape). Place the top piece of tape as a “cap” on top of the cardboard.
- Attach your stick(s) to the sign
- Place your sign!
Don’t be afraid to make extras and hand them out to your friends!
Phone Banking
Phone banking is a really fancy term that just means “call people” (or, alternately, text people). If you want to call or text people to spread the word go right ahead! I’m sure you know people and can talk politics with them. If you find yourself talking to strangers, introduce yourself as “calling on behalf of the Callaway campaign for legislative district 24”, ask them if they support the campaign or what their main concerns are, LISTEN to what they have to say, and discuss how the campaign’s policies could help them. Don’t be afraid to email me at electcallaway@proton.me with good policy ideas that you get from these conversations!
Canvassing
Canvassing is a really fancy term that just means “walk around town and talk to people”. It could mean going through a neighborhood knocking on doors, or walking around at an event or protest and spreading the word there. Ask if they support the campaign or what their main concerns are, LISTEN to what your contact has to say, and discuss how the campaign’s policies could help them. Don’t be afraid to email me at electcallaway@proton.me with good policy ideas that you get from these conversations!
